The Hebridean Whisky Festival 2025 was our fourth festival, and our best one yet, despite Mother Nature’s attempt to thwart some of the activities. This year delivered another adventure-thrilling, island-hopping, sensory-pleasing event celebrating the single malt Scotch whisky distilleries along the Hebridean Whisky Trail. The festival saw a marked increase in intentional attendees, and we want to thank every one who came to – or attempted to attend – our events this year.
We were delighted to welcome international attendees, including guests from several esteemed whisky clubs who travelled specifically to join the celebration. We hosted the Delmarva (USA) Whisky Club, the Norwegian Association of Whisky Connoisseurs, the Oslo (Norway) Whisky Detachment, Club Whisky Italia, and the Edinburgh Whisky Group.
Here is a look back at the distillery days and special events that made up the 2025 Festival.
Talisker Distillery Day
Talisker kicked off the festival with an exciting lineup of exclusive events. The day was celebrated outdoors with a vibrant, festive atmosphere, complete with a Talisker bar, food trucks (including chocolates, nachos and The Three Chimneys), and live music, all staged in a festive “Talisker by the Sea” theme. The energy was high and lasted all day, with guests leaving only after everything had closed down and the rain moved in.
Special ticketed experiences included The Distiller’s Table Experience, which offered a private tour, whisky and canapé tasting, culminating in intimate dining by Three Chimneys. Guests could also explore the history and process via the Hebridean Whisky Festival Express Distillery Tour, indulge in the Talisker x Chocolates of Glenshiel pairing, or venture Behind the Scenes for a tour with the Distillery Manager. The day also offered “Talisker: Aged on the Edge,” delving into maturation art and including a hand-drawn cask sample.
Torabhaig Distillery Day
Torabhaig also hosted an enjoyable festival day. Three special ticketed events were offered: the Torabhaig Whisky and Chocolate Pairing, featuring handmade chocolates from Chocolates of Glenshiel, the Torabhaig Whisky and Food Pairing, designed to explore how choice Scottish produce complements different whiskies, and a popular Warehouse Tour & Tasting where guests sampled whiskies drawn directly from maturation casks. The outdoor atmosphere included live music, a Pop-Up Bar and a Pop-Up BBQ.
Isle of Raasay Distillery Day
This year marked the Isle of Raasay’s biggest festival day yet, drawing whisky enthusiasts, musicians, and locals. The distillery released its bespoke Festival Bottling, The Hebridean Whisky Cask #1, a peated ex Oloroso Portuguese Oak Barrique, selected exclusively for the event.
Highlights included the “Living the DRAAM Workshop,” a hands-on experience where guests could craft their own personalised version of The Draam single malt. The ‘Whisky & Bites’ session offered a festival-exclusive tasting paired with complementary foods. The distillery also sponsored The Raasay Piping Competition, focusing on reconnecting piping with its Gaelic roots. The day was buzzing, with a full, steady flow of interested festival attendees.
Isle of Tiree Distillery Day
The Isle of Tiree Distillery celebrated its first Hebridean Whisky Festival Day with a fantastic turnout. The day began with the launch of their highly anticipated first Single Grain Scotch Whisky – the Rye release. The open day included free entry, tastings of their new release, and distillery tours which proved highly popular. In the evening, “An Evening with the Distillery Founders” at Alan Stevenson House provided a 5-course whisky-themed meal, followed by chat, tunes, and a Q&A with founders Ian Smith and Alain Campbell.
Benbecula Distillery Day
Benbecula Distillery offered an exclusive Hebridean Whisky Festival Masterclass. This event featured a guided tour and an in-depth masterclass led by renowned Master Distiller Brendan McCarron. Attendees explored the production areas and tasted the vibrant new make spirit, alongside a special whisky offering a glimpse into the distillery’s future. The visitor centre, which showcases local artists and the essence of the Outer Hebrides, was open, and the restaurant served locally-sourced meals.
The resilience and adaptability of the Outer Hebrides shines brightly in the dark, and was experienced as stormy weather disrupted travel here. Ferries were unable to run, frustrating potential event attendees. Unphased by travel interruptions, Benbecula Distillery found ways to accommodate guests who arrived a day (or more) later, and a good time was still had by all.
North Uist Distillery Day
North Uist highlighted its pioneering green approach to whisky-making. The day included free half-hour tours with samples of new make spirit, specialty whisky cocktails at the bar, and food from Trail Coffee Co in the courtyard. The main event was a Guided Whisky Tasting & Tour led by distiller Olivia Bunyan, who shared her passion for whisky and the Hebrides. The day featured the first draw of their aged whisky, generating a real buzz.
Hebridean Adventures Festival Cruise
A fantastic addition this year was the partnership with David Lambie of Hebridean Adventures. While the cruise ran Monday to Saturday, Hebridean Adventures managed to bring their guests to 5 of the 7 distilleries, thanks to the alternative arrangements made by some of the members. Cruise guests thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This partnership also led to filming by the Jet Set TV Show, who came aboard during the cruise and filmed the festival. This filming is expected to air across cable TV in America and Canada later this month.
The Festival Finale at the Isle of Harris Distillery
The 2025 Hebridean Whisky Festival culminated in a spectacular Finale hosted by the Isle of Harris Distillery. All seven member distilleries were present, celebrating together.
The festival was officially opened by the Lewis & Harris Youth Pipe Band, who also performed later in the day, boosting the festive atmosphere. Attendees enjoyed complimentary Behind The Scenes Tours throughout the day. Ticketed events included Master Classes with Blender Shona Macleod and Ian Faller of Island Spirits Whisky Shop.
A definite highlight was The Hebridean Whisky Trail Panel Q&A Session, focusing on “Innovation in Hebridean Whisky”. Moderated by Shona Macleod of Isle of Harris Distillery, the panel included Norman Iain Mackay (Isle of Harris), Brendan McCarron (Benbecula), Iain Hector Ross (Isle of Raasay), Olivia Bunyan (North Uist), and Alain Campbell (Isle of Tiree). The discussion was highly engaging, with people packed into the production area to listen and ask questions. The day concluded with the extremely well-attended Festival Finale Cèilidh at the Tarbert Community Centre, featuring The Dram Good Cèilidh Band for a night of music, dancing, and celebration.
We hope you enjoyed attending our festival as much as we enjoyed hosting it. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
