The grassy footpath that leads to Hallaig commemorates Sorley MacLean’s poem, Hallaig, which reflects on the poignant history of the Hallaig township. Once filled with Maclean’s ancestors, Hallaig was Raasay’s largest township before the Highland Clearances. The town’s ruins still remain to be explored beyond Hallaig wood at the end of the grassy path.
Allow a couple of hours to explore this footpath and the old town of Hallaig.
